This book is about plants that Southern Interior Salish peoples eat. First is the buttercup flower. We do not eat this, but this is a significant plant in that once it is seen in the Spring, we stop telling our legends. For the plants we eat, first comes the roots of the spring beauty, then the sunflower, bitterroot, white camas, Indian carrots, and then blue camas. All of our roots are dug with a root digger. The sunflower stems are peeled and the stems are eaten before the flower blooms. The seeds are then eaten in June.
